Moving

It’s official; we’re moving. While I have a final house hunters post written, I am going to wait until closing to post it. In the meantime, my house is an utter disaster that I cannot imagine finishing packing on time, it turns out moving 4 horses, 2 dogs, and a boatload of possessions I increasingly fantasize about burning over 3,000 miles is super expensive, trying to sell all of my vehicles and deal with buyers is slowly draining my will to survive, and I have absolutely no free time.

On the horse front, we moved Nilla, Levi, and Eugene to the barn where Shasta lives on Saturday. They’ll stay there until the move since our barn is partially self-care and also can’t handle a semi trailer coming in to pick them up.

It was nice to see Shasta again too. I don’t think she recognized us or she just didn’t care because she’s a mare and we didn’t have food. Shasta will be making the move with us though and my husband is looking forward to riding her again. She’s sound enough to be ridden, she just can’t jump anymore and she wasn’t getting ridden enough at our barn to keep her fit. At the retirement barn, she got pasture access.

The boys got turned out in a big shared paddock and they’ll also have some turnout time until the move.

Nilla was put in a stall in the barn. Then here neighbor proceeded to lose his freaking mind because he’d never seen a mule and decided he loved her and was now a stallion and would need to climb the fence to get to her. She got moved down the aisle and settled in eating her new senior neighbor’s dropped food.

The barn owner informed me that, despite my warnings to properly secure all gates, Levi didn’t even wait a full day to escape his paddock and take Eugene with him. If there’s a way out, Levi is going to find it. They were caught and returned.

We drove home from dropping the horses off, washed the trailer, and sold it less than 24 hours after listing it. Now I just need to sell the truck. If anyone’s looking for an amazing tow vehicle, let me know.

I may not be posting as much as usual until the move is over, but I do hope to have a few posts soon.

That’s so exciting and stressful! I found that doing a little bit of packing every day makes it feel a lot more manageable, but it’s still SO MUCH to deal with. Hope it goes smoothly!

I totally get it. It’s a LOT to deal with. But the end will come! I also found myself making a list of priority areas, like I could do the living room/dining room and garage well before I could do the kitchen, which I needed for basic living…to my brain, that made it a little easier to set goals, but it’s still a hugely overwhelming task to pack for relocation!

Great news! Definitely do not envy you handling all the logistics of that move, but it sounds like a positive for all the creatures!

Congratulations! I can’t wait to read about what property you picked and the outcome. Also, are you able to transfer in your job? Or will it be a new job? So many questions. 😀

No job for me. I’m going to be taking care of the horses with the eventual plan of having a few boarders thoigh not this first winter.

I’m really hoping my move goes smoother than yours with all the missing truck and too large of a truck for the road issues that you had.

We see the barn owner regularly and I have had a lot of updates on Shasta, but it was good to see her in person again.

oh man, congratulations!!!! moving is the worst, but at least it’s a temporary disaster (even tho it feels like it takes forever…). hopefully things go smoothly with the horses!

I’m on the edge of my seat for your final destination! Best of luck with the nightmare that is moving. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, but it’s a fact of life and change can be really good. With apologies to your California readers, I’m glad you’re getting out of there. That place is terrifying.

Yay for moving! At least all the stress you are feeling (and will feel until it is over!) will be worth it in the end. Can’t wait to hear all about the new place!

Ohhh CONGRATS!!! How exciting! And also really really painful. I got rid of a lot of stuff just moving to my apartment – and that was just me. I can’t imagine moving all my horse things and my horse and everything else. Good luck! I’m super stoked to hear all about it when you guys are ready and hopefully a little more settled 😀

i had a not that big 1br to move last year and i moved probably… 1/4th of a mile from where i live right now. and i was very close to burning everything i owned and leaving the ashes for the next tenant. so i can’t imagine what you’re going through.

when I first read about levi and eugene escaping I thought it said “they were caught and tried” aka sentenced to 15 years jail time for their escape and it made me chuckle. good luck, i’ll be praying for your sanity!!

I would totally try them in a court of equestrian law, but they’d just ignore their sentencing and carry on annoying the hell out of anyone in charge of keeping them alive. We’ve moved twice since moving to California and those moves were so much easier. I didn’t realize how much harder a cross country move would be.

Gah! It’s been so fun playing Equestrian House hunters with you. Can’t wait to see where you end up! Cliffhanger!

Best of luck with the move! We finally got all of our stuff moved into the new place – I can’t even imagine having to move all the animals
