Product Review: EquiFUSE Rehydrinse 1-Step Coat Protector & Conditioner

If you follow me on Instagram, you know my husband and I went to a horse trials this weekend. I have like 1000 pictures to go through and I can’t get a post out just yet, so I thought I’d finally do this review that I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.

This stuff is like liquid gold. The product description says it’s made from “Hydrolyzed wheat protein and almond oil protect, moisturize and promote a healthy coat,” but I would guess it’s made from voodoo magic. It basically transforms your horse’s coat into that of the softest stuffed animal or a mink made out of silk or a unicorn. Seriously, every time I use this, I end up just stroking the horse or mule afterwards. This makes their coat so soft and silky and enjoyable to touch.

To use, you bathe the horse first, rinse and scrape like normal. Then add one ounce of the conditioner to a gallon of water and apply to the horse’s coat with a sponge. Do not rinse off. That’s it. It’s super easy to use.

I got a 1 ounce sample of this almost 2 years ago as a random goodie bag prize at an endurance ride. I think it took me another year or so to try it and I have to say I was highly skeptical, but it really does work. I bathed Eugene with it and once he dried I was so amazed I was grabbing random people at the barn and making them pet him. Everyone was amazed. My husband, who is a typical guy in that he thinks moisturizers and conditioners are a giant conspiracy and refuses to touch them, actually really likes this stuff and willingly slathers Eugene in it when we get to bathe the horses.

In addition to making your horse feel like a real live stuffed animal, the conditioner claims to repel dust and dirt and make it so you have to groom less for the next week. I hate grooming so this makes me really happy. And it works without any of the greasiness or slipperiness of other coat products like Showsheen. This product adds a little bit of shine just because the hairs are nice and moisturized and lying flat and sleek, but it’s not really a shine product. Hence it’s difficult to really post any before and afters or pictorial evidence of the effects. Here’s Nilla post bath looking pretty though:

That sample converted me and I bought a whole bottle. The one-ounce-to-a-gallon mixture will cover two horses so it lasts quite a while and it’s pretty cheap at only $24.95 from Riding Warehouse. I’m still working my way through the one bottle, but I fully plan to buy another when it runs out.

Soft and silky all over? Can’t beat that. Plus it sounds endurance legal. Ive been really liking the absorbine botanicals and Gem goes all weak in the knees when I use it but it isn’t endurance legal. May have to give this a try.

I didn’t know there were shampoos/conditioners that weren’t endurance legal. But I don’t think that has any linament or medical properties. Just softness.

sounds like good stuff, Nilla looks great!. I guess I should actually wash my horse someday soon! Instead I just hose him off, and then he rolls in the dirtiest place in pasture. I do use a mane and tail conditioner I love, called eZall Shine and Detangler. Even in winter it keeps a dirty tail from tangling, and in summer I swear I use it just because it smells so delicious (and works. But smells delicious!).

    NIlla looks great. 🙂

I love Healthy HairCare Moisturizer spray as a tail moisturizer/detangler and coat conditioner. I spray it on and body brush it into the coat, and it gets super soft and shiny but not showsheen slick. It’s lanolin based and smells good. It seemed to help with dry itchy dandruffy skin too.
